How To Support Your Children Online

Keeping our children safe online continues to be a topic of concern for all of us.

If you haven't a;ready done so, we would recommend parents and carers visiting the following websites for support and advice for all the family.

A good website to support children is www.bbc.com/ownit. Messages, information and advice is delivered in a relevant and engaging way to children. It encourages children to stay in control online and offers reassurance, hints and tips. Under the "Don't Panic" tab you will find a video called "Has something scared you online?"

CEOP has launched a website for parents, which is full of useful information and advice www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents. In light of the reappearance of Momo

We have been contacted by parents, with concerns about the character ‘Momo.’ The character appears on the internet and also onto games like Fortnite and messaging apps such as WhatsApp. This character encourages children to undertake dangerous challenges, putting themselves at risk. We ask that you follow the Nation Online Safety guidance outlined below;

  • Tell your children it is not real, reassure them.
  • Check all device settings and parental controls,
  • Report and block,
  • Talk to your child about peer pressure,
  • Talk on a regular basis with your child about what they are accessing online.

For more information on this issue please visit the National Online Safety website: www.nationalonlinesafety.com.

We are in the process of booking an esafety workshop for parents as an additional support. Please look out for further communications about this. OSLOF has agreed to fund the workshop, so it is important that the opportunity is taken up.
