Class 2's blogs

Dear Parents,

Please find below a selection of writing from Class 2. The writing details what we did during the first 'Beast from the East'.

The Beast from the East by Oliver, Archie and Lucy.

The beast from the east

Last week we were learning about the Beast from the East - the cold weather that has recently hit the East coast. This was caused when the northern polar jet stream unexpectedly lowered and our weather began to draw cold air from the east.

We have discussed winter poems about the Beast from the East.  We were discussing the rhythm in a poem and that some poems have different rhythms.

We were collecting data about the weather. The class decided what data we wanted to collect about the weather. We chose to find the snow depth , the rain depth , wind direction and temperature . We used line graphs to record the snow depth it went from 0cm  to 5cm. The following days unexpectedly the school was closed. This was caused by the wind blowing huge amounts of snow across the field to the side of the road stopping  cars from getting through .

The class really enjoyed collecting the data and going outside in lessons.

The Beast from the East and what we're learning by Keiron and Richard.

Monday 26 February 2018

We’ve learned that the beast from the east means cold weather and it’s not a beast its just coldness.

We also learnt about how deep the snow is and the weather with clouds, the sky, rain depth, snow depth and the degrees.

Oh Wow!!!

We’ve also been learning about the wind direction we had to stand still get something fluffy and let the wind push it.

Sky colour: we looked at the colour of the sky

Cloud colour: we looked at the colour of the cloud

Rain depth: we got a bucket and it fills with snow rain water

Snow depth: we go outside and get a metre stick and stick it in the snow and measure it.

Temp: we got a thermometer and stuck it in the snow and we check how cold it is. Warnings don’t hold the red bit if you’re trying it!

What we felt

We were freezing cold and are hands were as red as roses and our breath was as cold as a dragon's flaming Smokey breath.

What we were doing with it!!!

We used the data of the snow to do a grid of time depth and more.

Keiron and Richard's work. Thanks for reading

Bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye!!!
