Class 1 - R, Y1 & Y2

What We’re Learning This Term – Class 1

This term, Class 1 is enjoying an exciting learning journey inspired by our theme Dinosaur ROARR!, launched by the discovery of mysterious dinosaur eggs in the classroom!

Children will develop their reading and writing through engaging stories, factual texts, instructions and poetry, all linked to dinosaurs and designed to build confidence and a love of language. In Maths, learning is practical, supportive and hands-on, helping children to develop strong number skills, reasoning and problem-solving.

In Science, children will explore animals and plants through the lens of dinosaurs, comparing prehistoric creatures with animals living today, learning what living things need to survive, and continuing to observe the changing seasons. Through
History and Geography, children will discover how we learn about the past, explore maps and the wider world, and learn about important figures such as Mary Anning and her fossil discoveries.

Creative learning is woven throughout the term, with dinosaur-inspired art, design, movement and music activities that encourage imagination and self-expression.

Children will also take part in an exciting home learning project, creating a dinosaur sculpture or fact-based poster, and we are very much looking forward to celebrating their learning at the Class 1 Dinosaur Museum event at the end of term — with a surprise trip to look forward to too!

Throughout all areas of learning, we nurture curiosity, kindness and confidence, helping every child to flourish within our caring and supportive school community.
