What We’re Learning This Term – Class 1
In Class 1, our learning this term is inspired by our exciting theme “Stories of the Sea... If the Sea Could Talk!”.
We began with a magical beach-combing experience at Orford Quay, where children discovered a mysterious shiny scale and began to explore imaginative stories of where it might have come from. This creative hook has sparked curiosity, storytelling and wonder across the curriculum, underpinned by our Christian value of compassion.
Throughout the term, children will immerse themselves in rich texts such as The Rainbow Fish, Tiddler and The Storm Whale, developing their reading, writing and speaking skills through storytelling, poetry and creative writing. In maths, they are building strong foundations in number, measurement, shape and time through practical, hands-on learning.
Across science, art, geography and history, children will explore plants, materials, coastal environments and the inspiring story of Grace Darling, while also comparing seaside life in the past and present.
Music, PE and design technology bring our learning to life, with rhythm work, sea shanties and a special end-of-term “Sea Shanty on the Shore” performance. Children will also design and prepare food for a seaside picnic celebration. Enrichment opportunities, including a Sealife trip and possible crabbing and fishing experiences, further deepen their understanding of our coastal theme. It is a busy, joyful term of exploration, creativity and discovery. We are all very excited!
