Class 2 - Y3 & Y4

Class 2 is made up of children in Years 3 and 4.

This term’s learning is all about coasts and how we use them. We will be using a wide range of geographical skills to identify physical and human features of areas of Britain’s coastline with a focus on the beautiful Suffolk coast on our doorstep. We will be comparing our beaches to ones overseas and exploring land use, economic activity and water usage in different seaside towns. As the weather becomes warmer towards the end of the Spring Term, we will head out to apply all of our skills on a trip to the seaside where we will create field sketches and gather data to bring back to the classroom (and maybe even enjoy an icecream next to the waves!).

Our Science areas of learning will relate closely to our geography where we will first be exploring the differences between solids, liquids and gasses and how some materials can change from one state to another, leading into learning about the water cycle before moving on to looking closely at rocks, soils and fossils which will help us to understand more about coastal erosion.

In English we will begin by writing our own wishing stories based on the folk tale The King of the Fishes before creating some persuasive letters and leaflets about single use plastic pollution inspired by our class reading book The Song of the Dolphin Boy by Elizabeth Laird.

Maths will focus on multiplication and division, fractions and ways we measure length and perimeter, mass and capacity.

This term PE with Mrs Silbert-Fryer will be on a Wednesday and Xtra time PE will be on a Friday.

Banded reading scheme books will be changed on a Monday each week, library books can be changed as frequently as needed. Please try to aim for reading 4x per week and record these in your reading diary
