New News Story

Information for parents/carers in Class 2.

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year! We hope that you and your family have had a super Christmas. May we take the opportunity to thank you for all our lovely presents – it was so very kind of you and they were all much enjoyed!

In the following letter, you will find some general information about Class 2 in the upcoming term. As before, we will also try to update you regularly with what is happening in our class on the Class 2 page of the school website, so please do check there for additional information throughout the term. Please note that there is an app to download to send you updates as soon as they are posted online. If you haven’t got the app yet, navigate to Google Play or iOS App stores and search for 'School News'. Once downloaded, you will be able to put in the schools' postcode: IP12 2LU and it will take you through what to do from there.

When I grow up… I can see..  I can go… I can be…

The whole school is starting this new topic and we are embracing it with the theme of starting our own zoo. This is to highlight the many different careers open to our children within a single organisation, from the obvious ‘zoo keeper’ to the not so obvious roles! The zoo will hopefully give the children a variety of opportunities to consider their aspirations for their own futures, whatever exciting roles these might be. More information about our new topic can be found on the topic overview on the website.

Reading and home school books

Your children will continue to have a home school book for you to record your child’s home reading. We hope to encourage you to read with your child every day if possible and record this in their home school book. We will ask the children to put these books in a tray in the classroom so that we can check them and also read any comments you wish to make within them. We aim to hear your child read at least once a week in school and will also be teaching your children reading skills during guided reading sessions. If you wish to discuss how to support your child further in their reading, please pop in and see us.

PE.

P.E. sessions will continue to be on Wednesdays and Fridays. Please ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school on these days (including kit for cold weather as we aim to take the children our for P.E. whenever possible) and that their kit is named. For P.E long hair should be tied back and earrings must be removed or covered with adhesive tape to avoid injuries.

The Hub after school club.

We would like to remind you that Orford CVAP has an after school club! It is available every day after school via a booking system with two session slots of 3.15 – 4.15 and 4 -5 pm. For more information, please see the school website.

Homework

As during the Autumn Term, homework will normally be set on a Wednesday and will normally be due in the following Wednesday. We will ask the children to record details about homework set in their Home school books. Reading daily will form part of this homework, as will a weekly maths task set on https://www.activelearnprimary.co.uk. Miss Cannon will again be running a homework club on Monday lunchtime for children to complete homework in the event of glitches / internet connection problems. We also ask that you support your child in learning as many times tables as they can. A copy of the times tables can also be found at the back of the home school book to help your child.  Spelling tasks will also be given out as homework. If you have any queries about homework, please feel free to come and see us.

Teaching and Support Staff

Mrs Reeve will be teaching on Monday and Tuesday and up to lunchtime on Wednesday. Mrs Lever will be teaching for the remainder of the week – i.e. Wednesday afternoon, Thursday and Friday. We will both be very ably assisted by Mrs Smy throughout the week. If you feel that you have anything that you’d like to discuss with us, please feel free to make an appointment and we’ll be only too happy to chat to you. We do request though, that unless the matter is urgent, we would prefer these appointments to be at the end of the school day to ensure a smooth start to the morning for the children.

We are also delighted to welcome Mrs Sarah Bailie to our teaching team. She will be taking over Mrs Wells’ teaching commitment on Wednesdays after play and Wednesdays just after lunch as Mrs Wells’ teaching commitments have slightly altered this term.

We are really excited about the new term and look forward to continuing to teach your child.

With kind regards,

Mrs E Reeve                                                                                     Mrs A Lever
