Class 2 - Y3 & Y4

Class 2 is made up of children in Years 3 and 4.

This term Class 2 will be travelling back in time thousands of years to prehistoric Britain! We will be looking at the clues left behind by our ancestors in order to find out about life in Britain before written records. We will learn about significant historical sites such as Stone Henge and Scara Brae as well as finding out how everyday life changed with the development of farming, metal tools and tribal societies.

Our first science unit will relate closely to our topic where we will be looking closely at rocks and testing some of their properties in order to name, describe and classify them, as well as learning about what fossils are and how they are formed. We will also be investigating different types of soils and testing their absorbency.

In English we will begin by writing diary entries based on the story Stone Age Boy by Satoshi Kitamura which will also be the first book we explore in our reading workshops. We will then be writing our own adventure stories!

Maths will focus on telling the time on analogue and digital clocks; understanding tenths, hundredths and thousandths in decimals and fractions; understanding pounds and pence including adding and subtracting amounts in order to solve problems involving money; properties of 2d and 3d shapes including angles and symmetry; plotting coordinates on a grid and using pictograms, line graphs, bar charts and two-way tables.

This term PE will be swimming on a Tuesday and Xtra time PE will be on a Friday.

Banded reading scheme books will be changed on a Monday each week, library books can be changed as frequently as needed. Please try to aim for reading 4x per week and record these in your reading diary.
